Here at GRUB we are very excited to be hosting some of Floating Art’s painting workshops!
Floating Art believe that with the will to learn and practice, everyone can be an artist.
They are dedicated to increasing the public’s entry into the art field, learning from different artists and movements from different ancient and contemporary cultures and integrating art with life. They run affordable art classes that allow everyone to learn in a relaxed and fun environment.
Whether you are already an artist or complete beginner, these classes will be a great choice for you.
Floating Art offer a wide range of different workshops, each exploring a variety of topics and techniques.

Studio Ghibli Painting & Drawing Workshop
🗓Sunday 14th April

Join us at GRUB MCR for this special Studio Ghibli Painting workshop!

To help you get started, we will teach you some basic drawing and watercolour techniques including colour mixing as well as line drawing and guide you through your painting session throughout. To help get you started, the session will start with a demonstration from our teacher afterwhich you will complete your own painting. All experience levels are welcome, our teacher will adjust her advice according to your experience.

We will bring along a wide selection of Studio Ghibli references for you to choose from but for sure, if you have a particular favourite, you're welcome to bring along your own reference. In our workshops you choose what you want to paint.

Japanese Fan Painting Workshop

Explore your creative side and discover new techniques with this fun workshop experience.
Learn from an experienced local artist with over 16 years of teaching experience, she'll teach you how to paint using traditional materials like bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美 (Traditional Japanese colours), Mineral Paints & gold leaf on rice paper.

We will bring along a selection of references from the different Japanese art movements such as Ukiyo-e, Rinpa School as well as some Japanese contemporary artists. This workshop will be our SPRING EDITION, we will focus on Cherry Blossom and paint onto Silk Fans however there will be a wide selection of references to choose from.

This painting class is suitable for beginners as well as those with a little more artistic experience, so don't worry if it's your first time. Your teacher will be on hand to provide guidance and answer any questions.

Japanese Woodcut Printmaking Workshop

Immerse yourself in the ancient art of Japanese Woodcut printmaking and create your own prints.
We're continuing our collaboration with local artist and printmaker Rachel Evans from Little Lion Studios. She will guide you through the process through designing your very own woodcut print, intricately carving them into a high quality wood block and then using ink and all the traditional Japanese woodprint materials to print them onto Washi Paper.

We will bring along a selection of seasonal references for you to draw inspiration from. Rachel will guide you on how you can make it your own instead of copying another Artists work.

Japanese Sumi-e Painting Workshop

Have a Sunday of culture with Floating Art. Let us teach you all about Japanese Sumi-e painting and learn how to paint beautiful Botanicals with us. 
In this workshop you will complete more than one painting, this workshop will be broken down into three sections, each will begin with a demonstration by Ula our teacher. We will start with something more simple to help you get used to the material and 'Warm up' You will then move into something more complicated and your final piece will be painted onto a Rice Paper board. You will also learn a little bit about sealing your painting. We will bring along some of our seasonal stamps and discuss how stamps are used to 'Seal' the painting.
